All classes are taught by Kate Lebo, award-winning baker and writer. Her writing has appeared in Best New Poets, New England Review, Gastronomica, AGNI, the Rumpus, and Poetry Northwest among other journals. Her food writing, recipes, and commentary have been featured in the Washington Post, 94.9 KUOW, City Arts Magazine, and many blogs, including this one. She is the author of A Commonplace Book of Pie (Chin Music Press, 2013) and Pie School: Lessons in Fruit, Flour, and Butter (Sasquatch Books, 2014).
She has judged the Iowa State Fair Pie Contest, baked at the American Gothic House, and won Best in Show at the first annual Cake vs. Pie Competition. After earning her MFA from the University of Washington in June 2012, she opened Pie School, her roving pastry academy.
Kate was raised in the Pacific Northwest by Iowans. She has ambivalent feelings about pie a la mode. She adores rhubarb.
